Mrs. Bickham's Discoveries Classes

Discoveries offers above average students the opportunity to explore and expand lessons presented in the classroom.  Students participate in the pull-out class several times each week.  Qualifying students in grades one through five participate in the Discoveries classes.  Mrs. Cindy Bickham is our Discoveries teacher.

All Discoveries students began the school year by discussing the positive behavior expectations.  Of course we have to be creative about it. se we put the expectations to song and dance!  Needles to say, we know them backwards and forwards.

Fifth graders are having a marvelous time learning new and rather unique vocabulary words.  As Sierra says, "There are some really cool words I've never heard of!"  Fourth graders are learning how to view objects and situations from a different perspective.  We pretended that were tiny and literally dove into a fun activity call Let Me Outta Here!

Third graders are solving problems using data that is available, plus background knowledge.  They are helping the character Dootey find the age of his teacher.  They are also learning how to organized Dootey's daily schedule using elapsed time.

The life of John Chapman is intriguing the second grade Discoveries students.  We are tracking his apple planting journey on the globe.  Students will create manipulatives to aid in story recall and sequence to help them master reading skills in a fun way.

A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court and The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes will be our literature studies for the year.  Even on the first day of Discoveries, the students began asking what classic they would be reading.  I just love their enthusiasm for learning!
