Mrs. Wilkerson's Strings Class
Our Strings classes are taught by Mrs. Deliah Wilkerson. She works as an itinerant teacher serving a number of schools. Students at Blanchard are very fortunate to have the opportunity to study with Mrs. Wilkerson.
Strings students
are currently "fiddlin" around on fiddle tunes to be performed at the
March 2nd PTA/PE Program at Bla Although Classically trained in music , Mrs. Wilkerson enjoys pursuing other areas of music. She is currently studying the world of Bluegrass music and rehearses weekly with the Blanchard Bluegrass Club. She is a member of the Northwest Louisiana Bluegrass Association. She is delighted her students will be given the opportunity to join in the performance in May and would like to thank the Blanchard Bluegrass Club and the Town of Blanchard.
Another one of
Mrs. Wilkerson's musical pursuits includes Scottish "fiddlin." She
is an active member of the Scottish Society of the Louisiana Highlands.
She has performed at many of our area festivals. Strings students
were involved in the study of and performance of several Scottish tunes
which Mrs. Wilkerson and her assistant, Miss Shelly Phillips, prepared and
presented at a recent Scottish program, a Robert Burns Dinner.
Students enjoy the lively lilt and tempo typical of most Scottish music. No matter what area of music a student continues with, Mrs. Wilkerson hopes her students remember their string classes with fond memories. She hopes that students will one day realize how music has enriched their life - as her has been. Whatever the style, Classical, Bluegrass, Scottish or other, music can be an important and fulfilling part of our life.
