Mrs. Alyssa Limerick's Second Grade Class

In the classroom, my Second Graders enjoy a variety of learning activities.  We have a wonderful phonics program by Saxon that helps our children code and read words.  This program introduces sounds weekly which are reinforced throughout the year.

My Second Grade students love reading group time when they visit different stations.  The stations include guided reading, office work, challenge center and free reading.  The children can also use this time to read and take Accelerated Reader (AR) tests on the computer.

Accelerated Reading is an exciting way to get our boys and girls reading more!  Our class is divided into AR teams.  The team with the most books read at the end of the nine weeks receives a mini party and prizes.  Go Team!

Math has become a favorite subject for some of my students.  One focus in math is learning our basic facts in addition and subtraction.  We practice them in different ways.  Some ways include using our Wrap-Ups to music, playing games with fact cards or partner drills in class.
