Mrs. Amanda Thomas' Class

Welcome to Blanchard Elementary!

I am Amanda Thomas and this is my fourth year to teach first grade at Blanchard Elementary.  I love teaching first grade.  I really look forward to the hugs I get and give when I greet students at the door every morning and spontaneously throughout the day.  Children are just so sweet and eager to learn at this age.

First grade is an exciting year!  This year we begin to really concentrate on learning and using reading sills, increasing our vocabulary, phonics, reading comprehension, process writing and basic language arts skills to help us become better readers and writers. We use manipulatives to help us understand time, measurement, money, addition, subtraction and other math skills that we use on a daily basis.  In addition, we will be learning many interesting facts of history and fascinating things that science can show us, as well as, how to maintain a healthy body and nurture a healthy life style.  As you can see, we have an exciting year ahead of us!
